The New York Times has reported that House Speaker John Boehner has indicated a shift on immigration reform by hiring Rebecca Tallent, a McCain staffer who is an expert on immigration and a known proponent of reform.  Mr. Boehner has also attempted to distance himself from the right wing of his own party with recent anti-Tea Party statements.

2014 is a midterm election year, and a move on reform is seen as crucial to regain support from Hispanic voters who have all but abandoned the Republicans in recent elections.
